Boyd Rice’s career as NON began concurrently with his rise to prominence as a pulp journalist and non-conformist icon. As a lead contributor to V. Vale’s RE/Search books, purveyor of bizarre footage and scopitones, and subversive prankster (who presented Betty Ford with a skinned lamb’s head), he created a mythology around himself that continues to expand to this day. Even his forays into sects of white supremacy in the 80’s were tempered with mischief and misanthropy. To this day he is a researcher of mystical bloodlines and occult practices, DJ of bizarre vintage pop records and the manager of a Tiki bar in Denver. His music incorporates samples, electronic manipulation and organic sounds from esoteric instruments.
PRURIENT
Dom Fernow, the mastermind behind Hospital records, is perhaps the foremost authority on rendering psychic landscapes via minimalistic noise. His marriage of textured drones, distorted chords, thunderous samples and shrieking vocals communicate the unmistakable ambiences of masochism, fear, love, redemption, claustrophobia and catharsis. He has collaborated with Wolf Eyes, Thurston Moore and Maronympha to name a few.
COLD CAVE
Some welcome new wave levity to the bill of experimental noise, Cold Cave isn’t letting their listeners of easily. Wesley Eisold (formerly of Give Up The Ghost and XO Skeletons to name a few) features with a rotating host of collaborators including Caralee McElroy (Xiu Xiu), Max G. Morton and J. Benoit. With a sound grounded in electro and shoegaze, Cold Cave infuses experimental noises and textures into their groove-laden songs.
