Our favorite memento from when King Khan first came to Santos (and there are a few) is a photograph of a woman shooting fire from her vagina. True, this was part of the performance, but reportedly several audience members involuntarily experienced the same phenomenon. Understandable, as King Khan & The Shrines boast a style of early soul heavily infused by proto-punk garage rock. Imagine The Sonics jamming with James Brown. King Khan and The Shrines take the Sun Ra mentality to the point of actually playing with the Arkestra. They take the Stooges mentality to the point of being ritualistically shirtless.
