AGNOSTIC FRONT
Of the 80’s genesis bands in hardcore punk, Agnostic Front was perhaps the
brashest and most offensive when compared to their contemporaries (Minor
Threat, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag). Never was the desperate life of NYC’s
street-dwelling downtrodden so directly channeled into music until Agnostic
Front reared their heads. From the downtown crowd of gutter punks and
skinheads, guitarist Vinnie Stigma created an explosive coalition of raw
energy, featuring vocalist Roger Miret at the forefront. The two have been the
band’s only permanent members, as intense personalities caused frequent conflict
typical of legendary punk outfits. 1985’s Victim
In Pain earned them national attention and made them staples in the
legendary CBGB’s scene, coming up alongside The Exploited, Cro-Mags and Murphy’s
Law.
In 2005, the band solidified the second guitar slot in the band, marking their
commitment to a thrashier sound. Their current sound, infinitely heavy and
brutal, is the perfect way in which to redress the classics of Victim In Pain for the hi-fi sound
system at Santos Party House for punk originals. NYHC lives.
MOTHER OF MERCY
Pennsylvania’s Mother of Mercy serve pit-ready thrashcore with a side of doom.
At the forefront is Robert Wilson IV, whose screams emit the force of a
thousand hurricanes. The rhythm section’s grinding stringwork effortlessly find
the perfect balance between full-on aggression and slower sections.
PRODUCT OF WASTE
Immediately apparent in Product of Waste’s music is the confrontational
defiance of Agnostic Front, with the true school hardcore sound to
match. Their
angular guitar, gut-bursting and piercing vocals easily satiate the
primal urge
for authentic hardcore.
INHUMAN
Fast, dark and hard as hell, Inhuman has been providing unadulterated hardcore
to Brooklyn for fifteen years. With releases on I Scream and A-F Records, and a
roster that includes former members of Agnostic Front, these guys maintain
loyalty and credibility in numerous underground circles. They are distinguished
for their varied sense of melody and their conscious lyrics, all punk rock
calls to arms.
